Christ the Son

John 1:49

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

As a Son:

1. He was begotten by God:  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not      perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16
a. He was conceived by the Holy Ghost:  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:  therefore that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.  Luke 1: 35
b. His nature was spiritual:  And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.  Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy:  the second man is the Lord from heaven.  1 Corinthians 15: 45-47
c. He is without sin:  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  Hebrews 4: 15
2. He pleased God: Three sources.
a. His Father’s confession: While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them:  and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.  Matthew 17: 5
b. His confession:  And he that sent me is with me:  the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.  John 8: 29
c. Man’s confession:  And were beyond measure astonished, saying, he hath done all things well: He maketh both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.  Mark 7: 37
3. He was accepted by God on our behalf:

I am the good shepherd:  the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.  John 10 11;

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.  John 10: 17
Conclusion:

When we are born again by putting our trust in Jesus Christ as Saviour, we receive a new nature.  2 Corinthians 5: 17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:  old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Should not our confession now be the same as his?

That is should it not be our desire to please him to the point that we confess that is our goal?

Should not the Father be able to say of us there is a child in whom I am well pleased?

Should not men be able to say there is someone who does things well and is trying his best to please his God by his service to others?
